Rams Hit the Gridiron
Yesterday brought the first day of practice for most varsity football teams across the state. Under a new rule coaches were allowed to begin last Monday, but few decided to take the extra week of instruction. Anxious players were mostly greeted with mild weather throughout the commonwealth, and hearty doses of wind sprints and down-ups.
The VHSL mandates that players can only wear helmets for the first three days of practice. Following that, shoulder pads can be donned. Full pads cannot be used in practice until the sixth day.
Like all other squads, Strasburg now has a clean slate and a fresh start. Hope rides high to improve on last year’s disappointing 3-7 record, and head coach Glenn Proctors first losing season in 24 years.
The Rams have a scheduled scrimmage against Buffalo Gap on August 27, followed by their first game of the season at East Hardy, WV on September 3.
