Strasburg Rams Continue Dominance on the Diamond

One year after their first State Championship victory, the Strasburg High School baseball team continues to shine. They finished the regular season with an impressive 17-2 record, securing the top spot in the league. Building on this success, the Rams defeated George Mason to claim the Bull Run District Tournament Championship for the second consecutive year.

This victory grants Strasburg (now 19-2) home-field advantage in the upcoming Region-B Tournament. They will face Wilson Memorial, a rematch of their 2003 encounter, where the Rams emerged victorious with an 8-1 win.

On-field success has been matched by individual accolades. Brothers Riley and Timmy McDonald, alongside Josh Kibler, Jordan Reynolds, and Alex Pfeiffer, earned spots on the all-district team. Timmy McDonald achieved a significant milestone by being named Player of the Year.

“I don’t think you can single anyone out as the key player for us,” Rams coach Jeff Smoot said. “Everyone played awfully well tonight. This was a complete team effort.”

Strasburg (15-4, 7-3 in district), which has beaten the Eagles (3-17, 1-9) in all three meetings this year, will face them for the fourth time next week in the opening round of the district tournament.

BERRYVILLE – Strasburg High School’s baseball team appears to have Clarke County’s number.

The Rams’ battery – senior pitcher Matt Neal and senior catcher Jay Barnes – powered Strasburg to its sixth straight win over its Bull Run District rival.

Barnes went 2 for 3 with a pair of home runs and Neal pitched a complete-game as Strasburg defeated Clarke County 8-2 at Singhas Field Tuesday.

The Rams (10-2 overall, 5-1 district) haven’t lost to Clarke County (6-6 overall, 3-2 district) since their first meeting during the 2001 regular season.
