Rams Dominate MMA in Homecoming Win
STRASBURG, VA – After suffering a disappointing district loss to Manassas Park last week, the Strasburg Rams unleashed their frustrations on Massanutten Military Academy, securing a decisive 48-0 victory. While some fans may have been more focused on the homecoming festivities, the Rams provided plenty of excitement on the field.
MMA struggled to gain any offensive momentum in the early going, allowing Strasburg to seize control of the game. Freshman Tim Rodrigues ignited the scoring with his third touchdown of the season, giving the Rams an early 7-0 lead.
Over the next twelve minutes, Strasburg continued to dominate, adding 35 unanswered points to their tally. Fullback Brian Blevins powered his way into the end zone from four yards out. Rodrigues added his second touchdown of the night with a 14-yard scamper, finishing the game as the Rams’ leading rusher with 104 yards on 13 carries (8.0 yards per carry). Blevins found the end zone twice more, scoring from three yards and one yard out. Although his total yardage was modest (35 yards on nine carries, 3.89 yards per carry), Blevins’ three touchdowns highlighted his impact.
Brandon Holbert, the Rams’ leading rusher from the previous year, also contributed a two-yard touchdown run. Holbert also made a significant defensive contribution, delivering a devastating hit that forced a fumble, which Strasburg recovered. MMA committed three turnovers in the first quarter alone.
At halftime, the Rams held a commanding 42-0 lead, having amassed 186 rushing yards and 27 passing yards. The Strasburg defense effectively stifled the Colonels, preventing them from crossing midfield. This defensive dominance continued in the second half, as MMA finished the game with just 104 total yards and only four first downs.
The second half saw the Rams utilize their backup units, providing valuable game experience. Sophomore quarterback Kirby Keller made his varsity debut, leading the offense on a scoring drive that culminated in a 15-yard touchdown pass to tight end Donnie Rice.
The only blemish on the Rams’ otherwise perfect performance was a missed extra point, resulting in the final score of 48-0.
