The Ram’s basketball season was extended at least one more game, by way of a 67-49 win over Manassas Park (8-14). Playing in their first game in a week Strasburg came out sluggish, holding only a four-point lead and allowing Cougar guard Sidney Welch to score 16 of his game-high 21 points in the first half alone. In the second half, the Rams tightened their defense, finally putting away Manassas with a strong fourth period. Jason Gutierrez, who had the assignment of guarding Welch, held him to only five second half points, including shutting him out the last eight minutes. Gutierrez also did his damage on the offensive side of the ball, racking up a team-high 18 points. Guard Cody Miller also scored 18, while senior Matt Kupeski contributed 14 points. Strasburg (14-9) will now face number one seed Brentsville (15-7) tonight in the district semi-finals.
