Judges Unleash Aerial Assault

Pilots in combat describe the moment of payload release as “bombs away.”

Handley High School’s Josh Verts applied his own version of the term Saturday, throwing five touchdowns while leading the Judges to a 53-0 non-district win against Strasburg at the Handley Bowl.

“I’m happy with the intensity we showed today,” Judges coach Tony Rayburn said. “Our execution was great, but we were a lot more athletic than they were.”

Game Notes: Strasburg was last shut out September 15, 2000 when Stonewall Jackson defeated the Rams 32-0. … Josh Verts’ five touchdown passes is a new Handley Judges single game record. … Strasburg has yet to score in the first or forth quarters of games this year, while giving up 60 points in both. … Glenn Proctor’s all-time record now stands at 279-145-7.
