Strasburg Rams Open Season Against Familiar Foe

For the sixth consecutive year, the Strasburg Rams will open their football season against the East Hardy Cougars of West Virginia. The Rams have dominated the series, winning all five previous matchups with a combined score of 188-67.

Strasburg boasts a long streak of successful season openers, having not lost their first game since 1980. However, East Hardy hopes to end this streak with a more experienced team this year. The Cougars graduated only one player, their quarterback. Sophomores Jacob Hackett (5-11, 170) and Gabriel Brill (5-10, 165) are currently competing to fill the vacant position.

The Rams also have a new quarterback. Joe Bauserman, the reigning Bull Run District Player of the Year, transferred to nationally ranked Lincoln High School (Florida) over the summer. Senior Cody Miller, the team’s leading receiver from last season, will take over at quarterback. Although Miller threw only one pass last year, head coach Glenn Proctor expresses confidence in his new leader.

The Rams’ backfield will also feature new faces. Both of last year’s leading rushers graduated, leaving a void to be filled by a group of inexperienced runners. This new wave of running backs will need to step up and uphold Strasburg’s tradition of a strong ground game.
