Rams Spooked by Turnovers in Halloween Loss
STRASBURG, VA – Friday’s Halloween matchup between Strasburg (3-6, 1-2 Bull Run) and Clarke County (5-4, 1-2 Bull Run) was more frightening for the Rams than any spooky costume. Strasburg committed an alarming number of turnovers, five in the first half alone. These included three fumbles and two interceptions, allowing the Eagles to capitalize early and secure a decisive 28-7 district victory.
The Rams’ opening possession ended disastrously with a fumbled exchange between the center and quarterback. Clarke County recovered at Strasburg’s 14-yard line, and on the very next play, running back Lee Liggins scored the first touchdown of the game.
Clarke County’s next two scores also resulted from Strasburg turnovers. After intercepting Matt Neal, the Eagles extended their lead to 14-0 with Stacey Poston’s 4-yard quarterback sneak. Neal was injured during the play and left the game in the second quarter.
His backup, junior Jeff Musterman, also struggled. A fumbled handoff gave Clarke County another opportunity, and they capitalized with Liggins scoring his second touchdown of the night. The sophomore added a third touchdown late in the game against Strasburg’s backup defense.
Strasburg managed to score once late in the second quarter. A 10-play, 65-yard drive culminated with Musterman finding a wide-open Bobby Hendricks for a touchdown pass. Musterman completed 2 of 2 passes for 5 yards and the touchdown.
Brandon Holbert continued his impressive run, rushing for at least 100 yards for the third consecutive game. He gained 101 yards on 20 carries, solidifying his position as the team’s leading rusher. Holbert has amassed an impressive 623 rushing yards this season, with 446 of those yards coming in the past three games alone.
